A FARMER and A HEDGEHOG STATUE

It was a very hot day. A farmer was working in his field. He had been there for several hours and was very tired, so he wanted to rest. Just as he was about to find a nice place to relax, he noticed something shiny. Curious, he approached the shiny object and picked it up. It was a statue of a hedgehog. The statue was beautiful, with eyes made of diamonds—those were the shiny objects he had seen. The farmer brought the statue home to show his wife. His wife was overjoyed. They were very poor and immediately thought of selling the statue.

That night, the farmer had a strange dream. A giant hedgehog appeared to him.

"Please let me stay in your home," the hedgehog said. "In return, I will give you everything you desire. All you need to do is caress the statue's head and say a prayer. There are two prayers: one to start your wish and another to stop it. Now, memorize the prayers."

The next morning, the farmer told his wife about the dream. Eager to see if it was true, the farmer gently caressed the statue's head, recited the prayer, and wished for rice. To their amazement, rice began pouring out of the statue's mouth. The rice kept flowing until the farmer quickly recited the second prayer to stop it. It worked! The rice stopped pouring. Delighted, the farmer then wished for jewelry and other necessities. In no time, the farmer and his wife became very rich. Grateful for their newfound wealth, they shared their riches with their neighbors.

However, one of their neighbors, who was a thief, grew jealous. He wanted to know how the once-poor farmers had become so wealthy. After learning their secret, he snuck into their home and stole the magic hedgehog statue. He ran away as fast as he could, but after a while, he became tired and thirsty. Desperate for water, he decided to use the statue. He said the prayer, and water began flowing from the statue's mouth. The thief drank greedily, but when he wanted to stop the water, he realized he had forgotten the prayer to stop it.

Panicked, the thief watched as the water continued to pour out uncontrollably. He called for help, but those who saw the incident were too frightened and ran away. As the water kept flowing, it soon surrounded him and formed a small pond. Eventually, the water flowed further, creating a river. People later named the river Hedgehog River, or Sungai Landak.
