The Ant and the Butterfly
Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, lived a hardworking ant named Ani and a beautiful butterfly named Bina. Ani spent her days diligently gathering food, storing grains, and building her underground home for the rainy season. She was small but determined and believed in working hard every day.Bina, on the other hand, loved to dance and fly from flower to flower, admiring her colorful wings and enjoying the warmth of the sun. She saw Ani working tirelessly and would sometimes tease her. “Why work so hard, Ani?” Bina laughed, fluttering her wings. “Life is meant to be enjoyed! Look at the beautiful flowers, feel the sunlight—come dance with me!”
Ani shook her head and replied kindly, “I know, Bina, but the rainy season will come soon, and there won’t be food or warmth. I must prepare so that I can survive.” But Bina only laughed, saying, “There’s plenty of time. Why worry now?”
Days passed, and the rainy season began. Dark clouds covered the sky, and heavy rains poured down every day, turning the forest floor muddy and cold. The flowers wilted, and the warmth of the sun disappeared. Bina, who had once danced freely, found herself shivering and struggling to find food. Her beautiful wings were soaked and heavy, making it difficult to fly.
Bina realized she had not prepared for the rain and began to feel regret. “If only I had listened to Ani and gathered food,” she thought sadly. “Now I have nowhere to go.”
As she sat under a large leaf, shivering and hungry, Ani saw her and remembered their conversations. Despite Bina’s earlier teasing, Ani’s heart was kind. She went up to Bina and said, “Come with me, Bina. My home may be small, but there’s enough room for both of us. You can stay warm and share my food until the rain passes.”
Bina gratefully followed Ani to her cozy underground home. Inside, it was warm and dry, filled with the food Ani had gathered. Bina was touched by Ani’s kindness and apologized for her earlier teasing. “Thank you, Ani,” Bina said softly. “I was foolish to not prepare. I’m so lucky to have a friend like you.”
Ani smiled and replied, “We all learn in our own time, Bina. Next time, you can prepare too, and we’ll both enjoy the sunshine and the rains together.”
From that day on, Bina and Ani became close friends. When the rainy season ended, they both celebrated under the sun, and when it was time to prepare again, Bina joined Ani, gathering food and building a safe place for the next season.
The ant and the butterfly learned from each other, reminding them both that life is about balance—enjoying the beauty of each day while also being prepared for the days ahead.
